Councils that have cat registration are transferring cat microchip details onto Dogs and Cats Online and linking to the cat registration record.
Owners will need to check that their cat microchip details are correct and entered onto Dogs and Cats Online once they have received their renewal notices
All cat microchip details will need to be added to Dogs and Cats Online from 1 July 2018.
Currently, your cat’s microchip details and owner contact details would be stored on one of the privately owned national registries. To comply with the new laws, you must enter your cat’s microchip details and owner contact details onto Dogs and Cats Online from 1 July 2018.
If your council does not have cat registration in their Cat by-law, you will not be charged an annual cat registration fee.
If your council is one of the 11 that does have cat registration in their Cat by-law, the annual cat registration fee will be calculated based on the information provided in Dogs and Cats Online. Some councils offer a rebate for cats that are desexed and microchipped.
If you have a registered dog, you can add your cat when you receive your renewal notice and receive your login to Dogs and Cats Online.
If you do not have a registered dog, you can create a new owner login on Dogs and Cats Online from 1 July 2018.
